PRE & POST CRIMEFEST TRIPS: THE BEST OF THE PAST

The most popular trips of Left Coast Crime 2006 and past CRIMEFEST conventions.

Sunday 20th May - Arrival

Transfer from London Heathrow Airport to Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel. Introductory welcome reception and dinner included. (Flights should arrive at London Heathrow Airport by 10 am.)

Monday 21st May - A literary tour of Bath

A walking tour of Bath explores the settings of mystery novels as well as the works of Jane Austen. Learn about fashionable society life in this Spa town and visit the the Museum of Costume, the Roman Baths and Bath Abbey before enjoying time at leisure to visit the museums or browse the shops. (Breakfast and dinner included.)

Tuesday 22nd May - Oxford with Morse, Vane and Wimsey

On a walking tour discover the Oxford of Inspector Morse, Dorothy Sayers' Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane. There will be time to browse in the bookshops, visit museums or wander through the colleges. Our visit will end with tea in the company of Colin Dexter. (Breakfast, tea and dinner included.)

Wednesday 23rd May - Cotswolds, quintessential England

Admire the honey coloured thatched cottages, manor houses and medieval churches that have inspired writers such as MC Beaton, Rebecca Tope, Betty Rowlands, Ann Granger and others on a leisurely drive through the Cotswolds with time to wander along the way. Stop for lunch in a pub and visit Hidcote Garden, one of the locations of TV's Rosemary & Thyme. (Breakfast and lunch included.)

Thursday 24th May - Morning orientation tour of Bristol

An optional walk and orientation tour of Bristol helps you make the most of your stay in this historic city. (Breakfast included). CRIMEFEST starts at 1:30 pm.

Saturday 26th May

CRIMEFEST (Breakfast and CRIMEFEST Gala Dinner included.)

Sunday 27th May - Afternoon tour Chepstow and Tintern Abbey

CRIMEFEST ends at 1:30 pm. At 2:30 pm take a short drive across the Border into Wales to the historic walled border town of Chepstow. Stop here for a short walk and visit the spectacular castle ruins overlooking the river Wye. Continue along the banks of the River to the nearby romantic ruins of Tintern Abbey for a guided tour of the ruins. (Breakfast and dinner included.)

Monday 28th May - Agatha Christie's Devon - Greenway and Torquay

Drive across the Somerset Levels, and hear of Judge Jeffreys and the 'Bloody Assizes'. Arrive in Torquay, birthplace of Agatha Christie, mid morning and follow the Christie Trail. Lunch at Churston Court Inn and visit Churston Church to admire the Agatha Christie window. The afternoon is taken up by a special private visit to Greenway, Agatha Christie's home with an exclusive tour by John Curran author of Agatha Christie's Secret Notebooks and Agatha Christie's Murder in the Making: Stories and Secrets from Her Archive so we can take our time and ask as many questions as we wish along the way. (Breakfast and lunch included.)

Tuesday 29th May

Transfer from Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel to London Heathrow Airport. (Breakfast included - flights to depart London Heathrow Airport at 12 noon or later.)

Accommodation: the cost of the trip is based on double occupancy in twin-bedded/double-bedded rooms at the Marriott Royal Hotel, Bristol. (Single occupancy is available for a £324.00 supplement)

Total cost: £1,630 per person if booked before 20 December, 2011. Thereafter: £1,730.

(Excludes airfares which must be booked privately. Flights should arrive at London Heathrow on 20 May by 10 am. Flights should depart from London Heathrow Airport on 29 May at 12 noon or later.)
