PRE & POST CRIMEFEST TRIPS

The CRIMEFEST trips are organised by Tours of Discovery, a much respected company that has built a reputation for high quality tours throughout the United Kingdom. To ensure the best possible experience, all excursions include the services of select, qualified Blue Badge guides—the only national tourist guide qualification.

The individual trips below can also be enjoyed as a ten-day holiday package including all trips, a full CRIMEFEST Pass (including the Awards Dinner), transport and most meals. The tour hotels will be the four star Rubens Hotel in London and the four star Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel.

Saturday, 25 May 2013: independent arrivals (tour only)
Welcome reception and dinner at the Rubens Hotel.

Sunday, 26 May 2013: Mystery Writers’ London
Begin the day with a panoramic tour of London exploring mystery settings from Sherlock Holmes to Inspector Dalgleish. Stop for lunch at the Sherlock Holmes pub with Peter Guttridge, author of The Belgian and The Beekeeper. Then continue to follow in the footsteps of Sherlock Holmes and visit Baker Street. (Lunch is included for all, breakfast for tour group only.)

Monday, 27 May 2013: Criminal Cambridge
Drive to Cambridge for a walking tour. Visit some of the colleges, as well as places described in P.D. James’ An Unsuitable Job for a Woman. Tour a Cambridge college in the morning. In the afternoon visit the Fitzwilliam Museum and enjoy the highlights of their fine collection or enjoy time at leisure before returning to London. (Lunch is included for all, breakfast for tour group only.)

Tuesday, 28 May 2013: Art fraud & theft + Spooks & Spies
Join Richard Ellis, ex-Scotland Yard Art and Antiques Squad, at the Wallace Collection for a morning overview of fakes and forgeries focussing on illustrations and examples of crimes where forgeries have come to light. After lunch, experience a Spooks & Spies walk as you go on The Intelligence Trail, London’s in-depth spy tour. Learn what has really happened in the world of Britain’s most famous intelligence servicesMI5 and MI6—over the last hundred years. (Breakfast is included for tour group only.)

Wednesday, 29 May 2013: Legal London
Drive through Dorothy Sayers’ Bloomsbury en route to P.D. James’ legal London—featured in A Certain Justice—including Lincoln’s Inn, Middle Temple and Fleet Street. Lunch at the Middle Temple Hall is included in a walking tour. In the afternoon there will be a chance to visit the Old Bailey or have time at leisure. Thursday, 30 May 2013: Stonehenge (tour only)
Following breakfast (included) drive to Bristol by way of Stonehenge and stop to reflect on the purpose of this five-thousand-year-old monument on Salisbury Plain. Arrive at lunchtime in time for the afternoon start of CRIMEFEST .

Thursday, 30 May-Sunday, 2 June 2013: CRIMEFEST (tour only)
Accommodation, all breakfasts and Saturday’s Award Dinner included.

Sunday, 2 June 2013: Berkeley Castle
Following the morning’s closing CRIMEFEST panels, drive to visit nearby nine-hundred-year-old Berkeley Castle, one of the finest examples of medieval domestic architecture. Enjoy a guided tour through the Norman keep, medieval kitchens, Great Hall, the dungeon and Edward II’s cell and state apartments before wandering through the beautiful gardens. (Dinner is included for tour group only.)

Monday, 3 June 2013: Agatha Christie's Devon—Greenway and Torquay
Drive across the Somerset Levels, and hear of Judge Jeffreys and the 'Bloody Assizes'. Arrive mid morning in Torquay, birthplace of Agatha Christie, and follow the Christie Trail. After lunch at Churston Court Inn, visit Churston church to admire the Agatha Christie window. The afternoon is taken up by a special private visit to Greenway, Agatha Christie's Devon home, with an exclusive tour by John Curran author of Agatha Christie's Secret Notebooks and Agatha Christie's Murder in the Making: Stories and Secrets from Her Archive. We can take our time and ask as many questions as we wish along the way. (Lunch is included for all, breakfast for tour group only.)

Tuesday, 4 June 2013: Transfers to London airports (tour only)
Following breakfast (included) make your independent transfers from Bristol to London airports. (Transfers from Bristol to Heathrow and Gatwick can be booked as an add-on at £65 per person to Heathrow and £75 to Gatwick. Please email Tours of Discovery direct for further details.)

Whilst Tours of Discovery will make every effort to keep to the described route and itinerary, it reserves the right to make alterations at its sole discretion.

Tours of Discovery are offering a CRIMEFEST package that includes:
- Transport to London airports for flights after 12 midday on Tuesday, 4 June 2013.
- Accommodation for ten nights in London and Bristol
- All breakfasts, four lunches, and three dinners
- Transport on touring days
- All trips and entrance fees for venues listed in the itinerary
- Attendance at CRIMEFEST in Bristol, 30 May-2 June, with panel sessions, interviews of featured guest authors, book signings and a Gala dinner

Total cost: £1,985 per person if booked before 12 January 2013. Thereafter: £2,085. (Excludes airfares which must be booked privately.)

The cost of the trip is based on double occupancy in twin-bedded/double-bedded rooms at the Rubens Hotel and Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel, Bristol. Single occupancy is available for a £520 supplement.
