Dear CRIMEFEST delegate,
(You are receiving this message because you are registered for CRIMEFEST, or you registered someone else on their behalf.)
We hope you are looking forward to attending CRIMEFEST in May.
To ensure you get the most out of your visit, please read all the information below.
First of all, as a registered delegate, please check that your name is listed on the website. Secondly, the name listed on the website is the name that will appear on your CRIMEFEST pass. If you are not listed, or your name is spelt incorrectly, please let us know as soon as possible. (YOUR NAME SHOULD BE ON THE WEBSITE WIHTIN 48 HOURS.)
If you have registered for CRIMEFEST and have not yet received information about the suggested hotels and discount codes, please let us know as soon as possible. If you are staying at the convention hotel, the Mercure Bristol Grand Hotel, then the check-in time is 3pm. Check-out time is midday. Delegates who arrive before or after these times may leave personal belongings with the concierge. We suggest you check these details if you are staying at other hotels.
GETTING TO CRIMEFEST
We have a page on the website with this information. Since the previous CRIMEFEST in 2019, the centre of Bristol has been turned into a one-way nightmare, with many of the streets and roads now only open to taxis and public transport. With this in mind, and due to the cost of parking, we recommend against driving to get to CRIMEFEST.
PARKING AT CRIMEFEST
If you do decide to drive, parking options are available. Please visit the WHERE TO STAY page for more information.
CRIMEFEST QUIZZES AND FIRST TIME DELEGATES
The traditional Thursday night pub quiz will be held in the Ballroom under the watchful eye of quiz master Peter Guttridge. In order to welcome first timers to CRIMEFEST, we are once again aiming to have ‘newbie’ teams. We will either assign a CRIMEFEST ‘veteran’ to captain the teams, or one will visit your table to answer any questions you may have about attending the convention. If you are interested in attending the Thursday pub quiz and being on a newbie team, then email us at email@example.com with ‘NEWBIE’ in the subject line. Any delegates – authors or readers – who consider themselves ‘veterans’ and who would be willing to captain a team, then please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with ‘VETERAN’ in the subject line. If you do not hear back from us, then ask for a status update when you sign in at the CRIMEFEST registration desk.
The three teams with the highest scores will receive a selection of books and/or DVDs.
You can enter a draw for two 2023 CRIMEFEST passes by attending Sunday’s closing Criminal Mastermind Quiz. Interrogator Maxim Jakubowski will be quizzing Cathy Ace, D.V. Bishop, Peter Hanington and Robert Goddard on general crime fiction knowledge, as well as the specialist subject of each of the participants. Don’t miss this event which closes the 2022 CRIMEFEST at just before 1pm.
If you have a disability, then please check with the convention hotel with regard to accessibility. If you have booked for a Full Pass and are registered as visually impaired, then please let one of the team know when you collect your tickets from the CRIMEFEST registration desk. We may be able to offer you an audio book instead of the print books in your delegate bag.
Delegates who have not booked for the Gala Dinner will receive a one-off email reminding them of this. Please note that there is no obligation to attend, but tickets must be purchased should you wish to do so. The three-course dinner has the following options for the main dish:
– Meat: Pan fried chicken breast, thyme and sea salt roasted new potatoes, kale, carrots, and port & shallot jus
– Fish: Roast fillet of hake, lemon mash potato, green beans, and caper & dill butter
– Vegetarian: Fried gnocchi with roasted garlic wild mushroom and creamy mushroom sauce
Gala Dinner delegates will receive a follow-up email in May, inviting them to nominate two fellow delegates with whom they would like to sit and we will do our best to accommodate these requests.
